Clients And Other Swear Words

You may have the best product or service in the world, but if you can't sell it to a client, then it doesn't matter. We all know that some clients are more difficult than others. We should always be prepared for any situation and ask questions that will help us understand the needs of our clients better. That way we can provide them with a solution that will work for them and us.

Ask questions about:

-What does your company do?

-What is your target audience?

-What is your goal with this project?

Before you start work, make sure you set expectations and that they are written out for the client. Things like...you will get 4 options to choose from...you will get 5 revisions of the option you pick. Explain what they can expect from you and what you can expect from them.

For example, if the client is providing feedback on a piece of work and they are not satisfied with it, don't take it personally. Instead, try to understand why they are unhappy about it and then see if there is anything that can be done to make them happy with the work.

Ask these questions….

  1. What examples can you show me of what you do like?

  2. What specifically about the content don’t you like? Color? Transitions?

  3. Ask of yourself, ‘do I understand the clients problem they are trying to solve with the content I am creating?'

After you ask those questions, make appropriate changes to the content so it fits the client's needs. Don't just write off a client because they don't know how to articulate what they want. Ask questions, and engage with them. If they continue to not answer the questions or give you any feedback, it is up to you as the creator to decide if it is time to cut them loose.
